Alternative Therapies That Can Reduce the Symptoms of Hashimoto’s Disease
Hashimoto’s disease, also known as autoimmune thyroiditis, affects 14 million people in the United States alone. This autoimmune disorder makes your immune system attack your thyroid, a small gland in the neck by the Adam’s apple, causing inflammation. The thyroid is one of the most important parts of the body. Every cell in the body depends upon thyroid hormones for regulation of the metabolism and other bodily functions. When not treated early, the inflammation can result in an underactive thyroid (also known as hypothyroidism). Hashimoto’s primarily affects middle-aged women, but it can affect men and women of any age as well.
What Hashimoto’s Does
During the early phases of Hashimoto’s disease, the thyroid cells are being attacked and damaged by antibodies produced by the immune system. These damaged thyroid cells then begin to release thyroid hormones in excess, which produce symptoms that look like overactive thyroid or hyperthyroidism. Symptoms patients may experience include palpitations, anxiety, sweating, tremors, diarrhea and rapid weight loss. When the attack stops, the thyroid hormone levels come back to a normal range. Due to this, patients may feel tired, lethargic, mentally slow, depressed and unable to lose weight. This entire cycle feels like a roller coaster ride and even most conventional doctors won’t know what to do. As Hashimoto’s progresses, more and more thyroid tissue gets destroyed, which ultimately leads to hypothyroidism.
Symptoms of Hashimoto’s
There are a number of symptoms a patient can experience from Hashimoto’s disease. A patient may experience several at once, or only one at a time. The symptoms include:
⦁Muscle or joint pains
⦁Sleepiness during the day
Reducing the Symptoms of Hashimoto’s
While there are several symptoms of Hashimoto’s, there are alternative therapies that can be used to reduce the symptoms, including:
⦁ Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy: a therapy that replaces hormones with hormones that are identical on a molecular level. In this way, hormone levels can come back to a normal range and symptoms can be alleviated. The benefits of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy include healthier moods, stronger bones, weight loss, regulated body temperature, improved sleep, a more youthful appearance, and improved sexual function.
⦁ Phospholipid exchange therapy: a therapy that allows toxins that are stored in the body for long periods of times, including chemicals from preservatives in foods, pesticides, and even some prescription drugs, to leave the body. This therapy replaces toxic fatty oil that contains pesticides, toxic heavy metals and dangerous organic compounds with cleaner fatty oils, which helps detox the patient’s system.
⦁ IV nutrient therapy: a method of feeding vitamins, minerals, and other natural substances directly into a patient’s bloodstream, which bypasses the digestive system and goes directly to the organ systems of the body. Many substances can be rendered inactive in the digestive tract, reduced in potency, or may not be well absorbed due to poor intestinal function. With IV nutrient therapy, nutrients are able to be absorbed directly by the organ systems and can correct deficiencies.
