The Easiest Way To Get A Full Night’s Sleep
Good sleep is the factory reset our bodies need every night. In fact, good sleep is just as important as a healthy diet and regular exercise. With our ever-busy lives and changing society, stress and high work volumes can make it difficult to have 7 hours of sleep every night.
But with how important good sleep is to our health, we need to prioritize and these quick steps can help you gain more hours of sleep each night.
Adjust Your Light Exposure Throughout The Day
Our bodies have a natural rhythm, popularly referred to as the circadian rhythm. Your natural rhythm lets you know when it’s time to sleep and when it’s time to wake up. In fact, some people naturally wake up at a certain time even without an alarm clock.
By increasing the amount of light you receive during the day and decreasing the amount of light you receive at night, you could reduce the time it takes for you to fall asleep by 83%. Make sure to get sunlight exposure during the day and reduce blue light from TVs, laptops, and mobile phone screens at night.
Create A Routine
Going to bed at the same time every day is a great way for your body to know when to shut down. Bedtime routines are not only for young children but are also healthy for adults. An irregular sleeping pattern can have an adverse effect on your body over time and cause increased fatigue and result in stress.
Decide on a particular bedtime and stick to it every day, this will help prevent the feeling of lethargy each morning.
Don’t Drink Caffeine Or Alcohol Close To Bedtime
If you struggle with insomnia, stay away from caffeine during the night. Caffeine is a stimulant, and it prevents your body from relaxing when you need it to. Coffee stays in the body for close to 6 hours, therefore if you’re trying to improve the amount of sleep you get each night, avoid drinking coffee after 3 or 4pm.
Alcohol on the other hand may help some people sleep but it reduces the quality of sleep that you have. If you need a nightcap, try caffeine-free and alcohol-free drinks.
