How To Know If You’re Suffering From Chronic Fatigue?
It’s quite common for most people to suffer from fatigue every now and then. But how do you know you’re suffering from chronic fatigue?
Chronic fatigue is more than a state of being, it’s an illness that affects millions of people, with many people not being clinically diagnosed.
Unfortunately, chronic fatigue is both a symptom and a disease, so how do you tell the difference?
Chronic Fatigue: Symptom Vs Illness?
Fatigue in general is one of the most common symptoms for many illnesses. If you’re tired all the time and are also presenting with other symptoms like headaches, fever, etc., your chronic fatigue could possibly be a symptom of another disease.
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, on the other hand, is an illness on its own.
It goes far beyond just being tired, and other symptoms could include:
- Brain Fog
- Deep Tiredness (Even after rest)
- Difficulty Concentrating
- Sleep Problems
- Pain
- Orthostatic Intolerance (Symptoms worsen when you stand up or when upright)
- Alcohol Intolerance, etc.
Diagnosing Chronic Fatigue
Diagnosing chronic fatigue can be a painful process. To accurately diagnose the condition, you need to have experienced chronic fatigue for at least 6 months🤯.
After this, your doctor will take measures to rule out other conditions, and that requires extensive testing.
You’ll take your doctor through your medical history and you should also let them know about any medications that you are currently on.
The symptoms associated with chronic fatigue are also common in other autoimmune disorders, so testing will also be done to eliminate these conditions.
Treatment Options
If you have been diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome, your doctor will give you over-the-counter medications to manage your symptoms.
Fortunately, functional medicine has gone a long way in helping patients manage chronic fatigue with its variety of treatment options including:
- Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy
- Chelation Therapy
- IV Therapy and Vitamin Infusions
- Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation
- Phospholipid Exchange Therapy
Questions To Ask Yourself Before Seeking Treatment:
- Do you have unexplained constant fatigue that doesn’t go away after sleep/rest?
- Is your memory impaired?
- Do you have prolonged exhaustion after physical activity?
- Are you suffering from muscle aches/pains?
These are just a few questions you should ask yourself. If you answered yes to one or more of these, then it would be advisable to speak to a professional about what you’re feeling.
