Wellness Programs for People with Complex Chronic Diseases
Complex chronic diseases can feel daunting and as if there is no solution. On top of that, you have to deal with the symptoms that are associated with the disease, which can make any motivation to find a workable solution decrease. Fortunately, there is a program that is designed for those patients who are suffering from a complex chronic disease, such as heart disease, cancer, autoimmune disease, or any other chronic and complex illness. Wellness programs very comprehensive and is tailored to each person’s specific needs.
What are Wellness Programs?
Wellness programs allow a patient and doctor to work as a team in order to find the source of these types of health problems, which is important to effectively treat the issue. An evaluation of all organ systems of the body, including the gastrointestinal system, the immune system, the cardiovascular system, the hormonal system, and the nervous system, is required to aid in finding the source of the problem.
There are typically three phases of a wellness program, which help in creating a personalized treatment program for each patient. The three phases include:
Phase 1
This phase consists of a four-month intensive treatment phase that can include the following:
⦁ Nutrition: It’s no secret that what we put in our body determines our health. During Phase 1, a personalized metabolic typing program is designed to assist patients in eating the right foods for them and to eliminate the foods that may be toxic. Patients work with a nutritional consultant to implement and stabilize themselves on the nutritional program.
⦁ IV Therapy: Intravenous (IV) nutritional drips can quickly support the body’s organ systems and give immediate help to the healing process, especially when used in tailored combinations.
⦁ Doctor-patient consultations: Patients can see the doctor as often as they’d like to in order to fine tune their program. Wellness programs are a team effort between the doctor and the patient, and the success of any wellness program greatly depends on the patient’s active participation.
Phase 2
This phase consists of a five to seven-month health stabilization phase where the patient is still being monitored by the doctor to continue any fine-tuning of the treatment. However, doctor consultations and IV therapy are less frequent. Patients can expect the following during this phase:
⦁ Lab re-testing: If the doctor finds it necessary, they can call for lab re-testing in order to stay abreast of any biochemical and hormonal changes and adjust the treatment appropriately.
⦁ Ongoing nutritional consultation and support.
⦁ Continued IV Therapy as needed.
Phase 3
This is the maintenance phase, which helps the patient maintain an optimum level of health for the next several years. The purpose of a wellness program is to get patients healthy again and stay healthy. This phase is very personalized and consists of care that is created for each individual patient. The most important part of this phase is staying in connection with the doctor in order to monitor the patient’s health and prevent future health problems.
