Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation (UBI) is also called Photoluminescence Therapy, and it is an important component of the clinic’s Wellness Program. As a physician that practices a concierge approach to medicine, Dr. Mathur feels that combining different therapies is the best way to help patients achieve wellness and that in developing a partnership with patients she can actively guide patients down the road to optimal health. As part of Dr. Mathur’s inclusive Wellness Program, this therapy is a treatment modality that can help patients overcome chronic infections and illnesses through the utilization of specialized light rays.
It has long been understood that the sun has an ability to kill bacteria, heal infections, and energize the body with more energy. Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation Therapy is able to help men and women utilize the healing power of the sun’s rays through directly putting it into their bloodstream. Due to its profound photochemical, biochemical and physiological effects it has been of great value in a wide variety of diseases.
Ultraviolet blood irradiation UBI) was regularly used during the 1940’s and 1950’s to treat medical conditions including pneumonia, tuberculosis, infections, and cancer. With the advent and heavy use of antibiotics UBI was no longer used extensively in modern medicine. Now, because of the increasing incidence of antibiotic resistant infections and a desire for more natural therapies, UBI is becoming more popular again.

The UBI Procedure
UBI involves using a sterile method to extract around 200cc’s of blood and passing that blood through a flat quartz tube, where it is irradiated with ultraviolet light in a closed, airtight, sterile circuit, and returned to the blood stream.
While the blood is exposed to the Ultraviolet light, pathogens and bacteria get killed, and the blood becomes charged with more energy from the light. Increasing the blood’s oxygen level has an antimicrobial affect, and it increases white blood cell activity, which improves overall immune function. The entire procedure takes about one hour, and evidence has shown that UBI can strengthen the immune system and improve overall health.
UBI has been shown to have the following benefits:
- Increase the immune system’s ability to fight infection
- Improve oxygen absorption into body tissues
- Kills fungal, viral, and bacterial growth
- Improves circulation and decreases platelet aggregation
- Increases circulation by dilating blood vessels
- Helps the body to detoxify and remove toxins
It is believed that exposure to ultraviolet light boosts the immune system and continues to provide benefits even after the treatments are completed. Ultraviolet blood irradiation has a cumulative effect, and initial treatments are usually followed with maintenance treatments. Often, there are no side effects, but sometimes patients may experience mild flushing or nausea as a sign of toxins leaving the body. Indeed UBI has been proven to be a safe and effective medical treatment.
UBI may be used alone or in conjunction with other treatments for conditions including:
- Allergies (inhaled, food or chemical)
- Arthritis (osteoarthritis, rheumatoid or psoriatic)
- Autoimmune illnesses (SLE, RA, Ulcerative Colitis)
- Candida (yeast) overgrowth
- Acute infections (influenza, cold, viral or bacterial infection)
- Eczema & psoriasis
- Fatigue (acute and chronic)
- Lyme disease
- Multiple sclerosis
- Herpes zoster and simplex

As already mentioned, Dr. Anju Mathur finds UBI to be a very effective treatment protocol at her clinic, and it is often used in conjunction with hydrogen peroxide to increase oxygenation in the blood. Dr. Mathur uses it as a standalone treatment and in conjunction with other protocols to boost immune function, help chronic conditions, and improve overall health.
If you have more questions about UBI and are wondering if it would work for you please call Dr. Anju Mathur and talk with one of the knowledgeable staff members. To learn more about the comprehensive Wellness Program with Dr. Mathur set up an appointment.
